Meetings with the Past:
Treasures of the Future
May 17th– end July 2005
CBRL was proud to support this EU exhibition (May 17-end July) on the
contribution of European scholars to archaeology in Jordan organised by the
Dutch EU Presidency in Amman together with the Khalid Shoman Foundation (Darat
al Funun). The opening ceremony (see pics opposite) on May 17 was conducted
by His Excellency the Dutch Ambassador Gajus Scheltma and the Honorable Mr Beltagi. The
exhibition showcased European projects in Jordan and gave an insight into the
value of their presence to Jordan.
Displays covered 50 projects from 12 European countries organised under eight
main themes: Survey, Excavation, Archaeology in the Petra Region, New
technology, Conservation and presentation (and its relevance to tourism),
Training Publications
Darat al Funun
Darat al Funun has generously laid its facilities at our disposal. Part of the
Khalid Shoman Foundation, it is situated in old Amman with a spectacular view of
the citadel. It has indoor exhibition spaces in two houses dating to the 1920s,
with four terraces and the ruins of a Byzantine church. The Foundation has a
deep rooted interest in conservation. Please refer to
