Conference:
Anglo-Russian Archaeology Conference
2nd - 4th July, 2006
The Kenyon Institute, CBRL, and the Orthodox Palestine Society in the Holy
Land held a ground-breaking 10-lecture international conference on the Russian
presence in and archaeological explorations of Jerusalem and the East
Mediterranean between 2 and 4 July 2006. The conference was jointly organized by
the Kenyon Institute, CBRL (incorporating the British School of Archaeology in
Jerusalem) and the Orthodox Palestine Society in the Holy Land.
Subjects covered included the history of the Russian
excavations in the Holy Land, the Armenian Mosaics in the Russian complex on the
Mount of Olives, the development of Russian educational and clerical
institutions during the British Mandate and their interrelations with the
British Mandatory authorities as well as the early history of the Church of the
Holy Sepulchre. The lectures were delivered by eminent visiting Russian and
local scholars. Some of the lectures were delivered in Russian and featured
simultaneous translation into English.
